Koha was first developed in New Zealand, and is now used in 15,000+ libraries around the world. Libraries can contribute to Koha and benefit from the contributions made by others around the world.
Koha is a purpose-built, web-based library management system. A web browser is the only requirement for library members and staff to access and administer Koha.
By supporting open interoperability with other systems, Koha provides a single discovery platform for multiple content services to library users. Libraries can choose to use the content management facility within Koha, or integrate with their full website, document repository, or any other online services the library may wish to bring together.
The public interfaces of Koha offer a responsive “mobile friendly” design.
Being open source, there are no “per-seat” licensing fees with Koha. Koha libraries spend their budgets on system support and future service improvements. Koha libraries can collaborate with each other, formally or informally, on our infrastructure or their own. Ideas from the community of Koha users steer the work of the Koha developer community.
