Release of Koha 17.11

Catalyst is delighted to announce the release of Koha 17.11. As always this major release has a pile of great new features and enhancements making Koha even better for the global community of libraries and their users. Here are just a few highlights:

Interlibrary loans

There is now an Interlibrary Loan Module for Circulation and the OPAC/public interface. This new feature allows library users and staff members place loans on items in an external institution. There are two components: first, the ability to search and place holds on items in an external catalogue (initially using the British Libraries API BLDSS), and second, to place a request with an external institution by filling out a form.

Online payments plugin

Making public online payments “pluggable” gives institutions an earlier integration pathway for adding new online payment methods to their Koha instance. This is very useful in making Koha more adaptable internationally because libraries can now easily add multiple payment methods specific to their institution, rather than having just supporting a few international payment methods such as PayPal.

Dashboard for logged-in library users

Catalyst developer Aleisha Amohia worked on this feature which gives library users a snapshot of their account information including their checked out and overdue items, fines accrued, and holds ready for collection.

The Catalyst Koha team contributed 67 patches and tested 63 patches in this release. We are proud to say that in this release a number of Catalyst non-developer staff members contributed patches to during Catalyst’s 20th birthday celebration (Catathon). Our new Koha developers are Joanne Morahan, Vicky Lin, Jessica Freeman, Julie Cameron-Jones, Daniel Brady, Karl Eagle, Jack Gilmour and Steve MacGregor, who all have patches in the Koha 17.11 release.
